It’s officially summer, having just passed the longest day of the year and that means that Church Road in SW19 is about to enter the busiest fortnight of the year.
Wimbledon has begun and for tennis fans everywhere, the greatest tennis tournament in the world will bring thrills, spills and hopefully more heart-stopping victories such as last year.
The organisation that goes into putting on the show is immense.
For all those events caterers out there who fret about the amount of food and customers they have to deal with, have a look at these statistics.
But bear in mind that Wimbledon is the largest single annual sporting catering operation carried out in the whole of Europe, with approximately 1800 staff employed for the occasion. So not your average catering venue!
Food, Glorious Food
On average, over the space of just two weeks, the catering staff will use or produce:
• 300,000 cups of tea and coffee
• 250,000 bottles of water
• 207,000 meals served
• 200,000 glasses of Pimms
• 190,000 sandwiches
• 150,000 bath buns, scones, pasties and doughnuts
• 135,000 ice creams
• 130,000 lunches
• 100,000 pints of draught beer and lager
• 60,000 Dutchees
• 40,000 char-grilled meals
• 32,000 portions of fish and chips
• 30,000 litres of milk
• 25,000 bottles of champagne
• 15,000 bananas
• 20,000 portions of frozen yoghurt
• 12,000 kg of poached salmon and smoked salmon
• 7,000 litres of dairy cream
• 6,000 stone baked pizzas.
And of course, 28,000 kg of English strawberries . . . to you and me, that’s 112,000 punnets all freshly picked the day before and served with lashings of fresh cream!
Admittedly, the eyes of the world are on the venue for the foreseeable future but whether you are catering for a global market or for the regulars at your local pub on a Friday night, if your oven packs up, you are all in the same boat.
Maintenance and Servicing
So that is why the team at AC Services (Southern) is issuing the following sound advice for your Rational oven. Don’t bury your head in the sand; if for some reason your Rational oven fails, you will lose your cooking facilities, possibly a significant amount of revenue and probably your temper!
We will do all we can to get to you in an emergency and you will be a priority, but we cannot promise that it would be immediately. The solution: plan ahead. Regular servicing and maintenance, it’s a no-brainer.
